Hey,
How's it going? It's been a while. I thought that I would come on here and share what I've been up to. So let's set the scene and pretend that this is a letter from an old friend. One that you haven't heard from in a while and they wish to update you on what's been going on. So sit back, get cozy and enjoy this letter from an old friend. :)
I recently took a life changing trip to Kenya and though I had already been to the country, I fell in love with it in a different way. It was there where I would meet people that felt like family within my first few days of being there. It was there where I met people who had been through so much yet they were the most loving and caring people ever. I don't think I've ever been happier to do farm work. I was shocked with myself, I felt like I had a pep in my step and a smile that couldn't fade. I loved it there, I loved the simplicity of life, I loved the joy we would have each morning, filled with excitement to see each other and go through the day together. I loved the genuine community that made me feel at home and most of all.... I loved the people. Side note: Kenyan's are doing something RIGHT with their food because it was literally amazing every single day.
Pictured here is a lovely hummus and veggie wrap that I would get for lunch from a little sandwich shop that we would often go to on our work trips. I remember taking this picture and thinking about how I would miss frequenting this little shop because it was our last week on that work site. They had gotten so used to us coming in for lunch that as soon as I would walk in, they would say "Hi Lisa, hummus and veggie wrap?". They instantly knew what my order was because I would always get the same thing. I only spoke to the workers a few times but they brought a smile to my face every time I entered that shop. If you ask me what's been bringing me joy right now, I would say that one of the things are the sweet moments with people I barely know whose kindness shines so bright.
I love exploring places with the people that I love and enjoying yummy chocolate muffins, taking long walks, enjoying nature and fresh air, and having long talks at random coffee shops while its raining outside. Those are just a few of the beautiful moments that have been happening lately.
Throughout my many adventures and all the blessings in my life right now, there are times I slip back into old habits and a lack of appreciation for where I am because I keep thinking of where I want to be. I want to be present and enjoy whatever season that I am in, while being disciplined and working towards where I want to be and that's hard sometimes. Recently one of my sisters traveled and surprised me for the weekend and I truly enjoyed every moment with her. I felt so refreshed and ready to keep making the most of life, even the simple moments. I've realized lately that it is important to surround yourself with the right people and like the last picture says... "it's not the places, it's the people". I could be in the middle of nowhere, but with the right people... it would feel like paradise.
"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens" Ecclesiastes 3:1
I hope this brought a little sunshine to your day. Write back to me soon!
Love your old friend,
Lisa.

May God keep making you a blessing! I love how you have such a loving heart for others and praise God for that!
